About the Ensemble
Intercontinental Ensemble
The Intercontinental Ensemble is a nine-member chamber group—four strings and five winds—whose players hail from Mexico, Spain, Hong Kong, Portugal, the Czech Republic, Luxembourg, and the Netherlands. United by a passion for storytelling through music, they exploit the richness and flexibility of their unusual line-up to enlarge the repertoire with original symphonic arrangements and newly commissioned works.
Their albums Traveling Light, In Motu, and Arc have all been greeted with enthusiastic reviews at home and abroad. The ensemble regularly collaborates with artists such as Piano Duo Scholtes-Janssens, Channa Malkin, Niek Baar, Nicolas van Poucke, Benjamin Kruithof, Severin von Eckardstein, Ekaterina Levental, Marieke Vos, and Maarten Koningsberger. They have premiered music by composers Wim Henderickx, Sarah Neutkens, Aregnaz Martirosyan, Edo Frenkel, Apollonio Maiello, Gabriel Lubell, and Bianca Bongers.
Recent appearances include the Concertgebouw, Muziekgebouw aan ’t IJ, De Doelen Rotterdam, Amare in Den Haag, TivoliVredenburg, the Grachtenfestival, and the Schiermonnikoog Festival, alongside concerts in Mexico, Italy, Belgium, and Luxembourg.
